A Lesson on Saving

For a couple of months now Nathan has been saving up his dollars for a special toy. Each time he would do a chore (a chore being cleaning up a mess that he didn’t make or some other action that he shouldn’t just naturally do) he would get a dollar. Even the grandparents got in on the act of giving the little guy money towards his big prize.

Well, today, Noah decided that he didn’t want to sleep and at 2:00 on a very rainy day I realized that I wasn’t going to make it to Meredith’s arrival at 5:00 so I decided to let Nathan count his money. Remarkably there were as much money in random quarters that I had dropped in his bank as he had in actual dollars. You should have seen his face as he started counting the stacks of quarters. At 19 (the price of the toy) he started shouting. “I can get my monster truck toy! I can get my monster truck toy!”

It was a cool lesson in learning to save for what you want. And for all of those who know me, yes I understand the hypocrisy inherent in me teaching this lesson. I just don’t want Nathan to have the same trouble saving as I have.

New Camera Fun

I had a fun day with our new camera today. Mostly I was just playing around with settings seeing if I could figure out the best way to take pictures in low light. Here are just a few of the 150 or so pictures that I took.

Friday Night Family Night

The Yancey family are all popcorn lovers...including Noah at 16 months. From the sound of the microwave door closing to the first pop the boys come running and crawling.

There is a new family game show on Friday nights now called "Family Game Night" that we started watching with Nathan. Last Friday night we added Noah and popcorn to the mix and it looks like we've started us a weekly family tradition.

Paradise Pumpkin Patch

We had a blast at the Pumpkin Patch x 2. First Nathan's class from school went and I forgot my camera that day. We had so much fun we had to go back again and take Lexi and Nina with us. It was not crowded at all so there was no wait to do anything and these two played and played and played. We got there early afternoon and stayed till they closed at 6:00. We went home a tired but happy group. Paradise Pumpkin Patch is here in Eufaula and is well worth the $ spent.
